Professor Saon Ray is an economist specialising in industry and international trade, her research interests include global value chains, technological upgrading of Indian industries, free trade agreements, technology transfer, foreign direct investment, efficiency and productivity of firms, financial inclusion, and energy and climate change related issues with an emphasis on questions of policy relevance.
 
She holds a Ph.d. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on the role of intellectual property rights in transferring technology to developing economies. 

Academic Qualifications: Ph.D. (Economics), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, 2001. (Topic: Some Aspects of Gains from technology Transfer)

Areas of Research: International Trade, Industrial Economics, Microeconomics, Energy Economics, Climate Change Adaptation and Applied Econometrics.
